The Bluestack Mountains reach altitudes of up to 674 metres, so there’s no shortage of tour options! Whether you’re a fan of short walks or commando marches, there’s something for everyone!
One of our favorite circuits is the Blue Stack Way, an official walking circuit up to 142km long, linking Donegal town to Ardara. Of course, you don’t have to do the circuit from start to finish (it takes several days), but the surrounding landscapes will give you access to fabulous scenery, where sky, mountains and valleys cohabit magnificently together.
If you want to do this tour from A to Z, don’t forget to bring a tent, a good sleeping bag and the food you’ll need for the trip, otherwise you’ll be forced to give up quickly… It’s worth noting that this circuit is quite popular, attracting quite a few people every spring and summer… So don’t be surprised if the circuit is rather busy…
If you’re lazy (laziness can happen ;-D), there are also shorter routes that can be completed in a day or an afternoon. These routes take you around Lough Eske, a superb lake with deep, calm waters reflecting the Bluestacks Mountains. The scenery is truly magnificent! Among the tours on offer, don’t hesitate to take the Scenic Road, a road that runs alongside the lake and can be done on foot or by car! The panorama is breathtaking!
