Dun Na Ri Forest Park in County Cavan, Ireland, is part of what was once the Cabra estate. The area is steeped in myths and legends, some of which date back to the time of Cuchullain, the mythical Irish Gaelic warrior, who rested in these woods while fighting the armies of Queen Maeve of Connacht.
The Dun Na Ri Forest Park is home to an incredible array of wildlife, including otters, mink, trout, salmon, foxes, badgers, ermines… not to mention the birds, which immerse the forest park in a sonorous atmosphere of delightful songs and chirps.
The forest is overgrown with majestic oak and ash trees. There are also hazelnuts, holly and rhododendrons by the hundreds!
There are 4 footpaths within the park. All of them are signposted, offering you a plunge into the heart of nature, in a lush, green setting. A lovely interlude, suitable for all levels. Remember to bring at least a good pair of sneakers (hiking boots are even better).
The trails will take you into the heart of the forest, along the Cabra River and past pretty spots perfect for a picnic or a family break!
