Gortin Glen Forest Park is a sublime forest park located in Northern Ireland, less than 10km from the town of Omagh. With a surface area of 1500 hectares, the forest is ideal for a walk in the woods, winding through fir, oak and fern trees. A natural interlude that will appeal to wilderness enthusiasts.
Gortin Glen Forest Park is a small wilderness paradise, located west of the Sperrins Mountains, with remarkable biodiversity. The forest is populated by deer and rare species, which can be encountered with discretion.
A series of signposted trails start from the checkpoint in the main parking lot. To date, there are 3 major hiking loops to try out:
Each trail is a pleasure to follow, guaranteeing total immersion in the forest. All trails are color-coded and return to the parking lot, forming a loop.
For the less sporty, who don’t want to drag their sneakers for miles, there’s also an alternative: the Forest Drive. It’s an 8-km panoramic drive. The latter is punctuated by remarkable views of the forest. The road makes it easy to stop and enjoy. Get ready for breathtaking scenery!
You can also do this route by bike or on horseback (horseback rides require prior authorization).
Last but not least, the forest is equipped with camping facilities. Hard-burner barbecues are also available for picnics!
