Gortin Glen Lakes are two lakes in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Fabulous, and located in the heart of the Sperrins Mountains, these lakes offer great walking prospects. The setting is wild and bucolic: you’ll love its flower-filled landscapes overlooking the mountains.

The Gortin Glen Lakes are skirted by recently refurbished marked trails. Bordered by heather and abundant vegetation, the figure-of-eight circuit is very pleasant. Suitable for the whole family, it’s just 1km long! A simple pair of sneakers is all you need to progress.
To discover the lakes, simply park in the designated parking area and follow the trail. You don’t have to make sense: it’s up to you!
Note that the trail has a few benches scattered here and there along the way. An opportunity to stop and admire the incredible view of the 2 lakes and the Sperrins mountains. The lakes are peaceful and mysterious: their dark waters have a rare romantic quality.
Feel free to relax and enjoy the pleasant atmosphere. The spot is ideal for a wild, bucolic picnic. Sandwiches and salads in front of such a view: you’ll feel privileged!

Good to know: the Gortin Glen Lakes are not far from Harry Avery’s Castle in Newtownstewart. This is a ruined castle dating from the 14th century. Don’t hesitate to take a tour and immerse yourself in the region’s medieval history! A charming relic not to be missed!
