Built in 1450 by the Dermod MacCarthy clan, Kilcoe Castle is one of the best-preserved castles in the Cork region. Currently being restored by its current owner, actor Jeremy Irons (sorry!) and his actress wife Sinéad Cusack, the site is magnificent, but unfortunately closed to visitors…

Visit Kilcoe Castle

A magnificently restored tower closed to visitors

Kilcoe Castle is located on a small rocky island known as Mannin Beg. Set in the heart of Roaring Water Bay, the castle is an imposing tower protected by defensive walls.

At the time, it served as the residence of the MacCarthy clan chief, effectively protecting him from attack.

If you’d like to visit the castle, please note that Kilcoe Castle is closed to the public, for the private use of its owner, the famous Jeremy Irons. Too bad, but you can still admire it from the bay!
