A Gothic cathedral-like church…

What would a visit to Cork be without a visit to one of its most beautiful churches? Whether you’re religious or atheist, this place is well worth a visit, if only for the dazzling quality of its architecture and interior decor.

Built in August 1859 by E.W. Pugin, a highly sought-after architect of the time, the church is deeply Gothic in style, using mainly red sandstone, a stone that contrasts magnificently with the town’s colorful houses. Don’t miss the chance to enter the heart of the building, where the best part of the show takes place!

Everything is grandiose and quickly takes on cathedral-like proportions! Based on a Latin cross plan, the church features an imposing central nave, protected by a richly sculpted roof. The choir houses magnificent period sculptures, and the stained glass windows perfectly filter the light entering the church… Not to mention the magnificent organ at the entrance to the building!

You can visit St Peter and Paul’s Church free of charge, provided you are discreet and avoid flash photography. Please note that the church is still in use, so avoid visiting during mass or similar ceremonies.
