Cork’s Crawford Art Gallery is a superb Cork museum, much loved by art lovers. Housed in the former Maison des Douanes, the museum boasts a fine collection of paintings and sculptures!
The Crawford Art Gallery is housed in a magnificent building dating from 1724. A popular venue, it features a vast collection of paintings and sculptures by Irish artists of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Among the great artists on show are works by Jack B. Yeats, a great Irish painter renowned for his talent, as well as Frederick Buck and John Butts. The paintings on display date from the 17th to the 20th century, and some are by artists from other European countries.
The museum is quite pleasant and well laid out. Sculptures stand side by side with paintings, creating a particularly relaxing atmosphere. As for the guides on hand for the guided tours, they know every story and every detail of the collection on display inside out!
