Sugar Loaf is a mountain in County Wicklow. Nicknamed “Sugarloaf” because of its atypical shape, it consists mainly of a thick layer of clear quartzite, which also gives it its name. An unforgettable playground if you like your hikes a little rough!
Great Sugar Loaf is nicknamed “Great” to distinguish it from a neighboring mountain, Little Sugar Loaf, which also has a similar shape.
The Great Sugar Loaf rises to 500 meters above sea level, and is sometimes shaped like a volcano. But rest assured: this mountain is a mountain!
You can reach it from the south of Enniskerry village. A number of hiking trails will take you up the mountain, but we’d better warn you: the level of difficulty is high! Don’t go it alone, and go well equipped!
In any case, if you’re not particularly keen on walking, you can admire it by taking a drive along the R755 or the L1037. The panorama is splendid!
