An American series dedicated entirely to the life of Irish king Brian Boru is currently in preparation. A particularly exciting project for the Irish, who are very attached to their history.

Considered a major figure in Irish history, Brian Boru is best known as an 11th-century Irish king, famous for liberating Ireland from centuries of Viking domination. He distinguished himself at the Battle of Clontarf in 1014, where he finally defeated the enemy in a bloody battle. A great figure of courage, legend has it that he was killed in his tent while praying, giving thanks to God for his victory.

The series already promises to be in total excess. Big budget, significant technical resources… Every effort will be made to pay tribute to this figurehead of Irish culture.

The series will be adapted from the 1980 New York Times best-selling novel “Lion of Ireland”. It was written by Morgan Llywelyn and met with great acclaim from readers, including US President Ronald Reagan, who confessed at the time that the novel was his favorite work.

Today, the rights to the novel have been acquired by Irish author Michael Scott and BCDF Pictures, an American production company.

It will be an 8-episode series. It’s a bit of a hybrid, halfway between Vikings and Braveheart. It will be filmed mainly in Ireland for greater credibility, and above all to take advantage of the incredible landscapes of the Irish country! said Claude dal Farra, producer of the upcoming television adaptation.

The series will focus on Brian Boru’s life and heroic deeds, but also on the women in his life, the most famous of whom was Gormlaith.

This takes place at a time when women were the equals of men. Ireland was Christian, but it was Brehon law. explains Michael Scott

A highly anticipated series… Unfortunately, no release date has yet been announced.
