Brazen Head

Dublin's historic Irish pub, founded in 1198 and still going strong! An institution in Ireland: a must if you're in the area!

The Brazen Head is said to be one of Ireland’s oldest surviving Irish pubs! Located in Dublin, it was founded in 1198, and has survived to the present day. Admittedly, the Pub doesn’t look anything like it did back in the day, but the premises have been occupied from the 12th century to the present day for a single purpose: serving beer, and living the Irish craic!

Moving on to Brazen Head

A pub with an eventful history!

Although the Brazen Head is said to be Ireland’s oldest Irish pub, its early history remains unclear. A tavern surely stood here in 1198, and has survived to the present day. It has to be said that the place is not lacking in cachet! It was built on Lower Bridge Street, a stone’s throw from the Liffey, right in Dublin city center.

And let’s face it, it’s no match for its Temple Bar comrades: the Brazen Head is one of those authentic trad pubs whose walls are steeped in incredible history! The establishment boasts of having been the site of secret gatherings since the uprisings of 1798! Renowned Irish nationalists such as Robert Emmet, Wolfetone and Daniel O’Connell are said to have enjoyed a pint in the pub, while talking politics!

Beyond its history, Brazen Head has a certain charm all of its own. It offers a wide range of alcoholic beverages, and has a menu of Irish gourmet specialities, which are quite affordable for small budgets! Salads, Irish stew, smoked salmon, burgers, Guinness beef stew, mussels, bangers and mash… A real discovery, at attractive prices!

Traditional concerts can be enjoyed on site, in a very friendly atmosphere!
