Bono and The Edge, from the legendary Irish band U2, gave a 40-minute concert in a subway station in Kiev, Ukraine, on Sunday May 8. A concert of solidarity, where the rock band showed their support for the Ukrainian people. Invited by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy himself, the group caused a sensation not only inside the metro station, but also around the world, thanks to a live broadcast on social networks.
Bono has always liked to get involved politically. This is borne out by his many concerts in support of Africa, and campaigns against AIDS, racism… etc. So it was no surprise to see the Irishman jump at the chance when Volodymyr Zelenskyy approached him to come and play for around 40 minutes in Kiev.
The duo played a number of tracks from their discography, as well as covers of famous artists. In social networking posts, for example, the duo can be seen playing Ben E. King’s Stand By Me with Ukrainian soldiers.
Other hits include With Or Without You, Desire, Angel of Harlem and Vertigo.
I’m grateful to Bono for supporting our people and drawing even more attention to the need to help our people,” said Zelenskyy in a video speech .
A lovely concert, which showed U2’s support for Ukraine in this conflict and boosted Ukrainian morale.
