Renowned Irish actor Cillian Murphy has announced that he will soon be starring in the film “Small Things Like These”. The project will start shooting in March 2023 in New Ross, County Wexford, Ireland. The adaptation is based on the best-selling novel by Irish author Claire Keegan. An eagerly awaited film!
Cillian Murphy is never where you expect him to be. The young actor juggles between Hollywood productions and more intimate films.
And this time, the Irish actor returns to his native land, with the film alternating between shots in New Ross and Dublin. With a budget of 10 million euros, the project promises to do things on a grand scale, delivering a film as faithful as possible to Claire Keegan’s novel.
And the plot promises a rich and powerful story:
“It’s 1985 in a small Irish town. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, Bill Furlong, coal merchant and family man, experiences a busy season.
Early one morning, while delivering an order to the local convent, Bill makes a discovery that will force him to confront both his past and the complicit silences of a church-controlled town.”
The pitch promises a critical look at Ireland in the 1980s, mired in Puritanism and the stigmatization of individuals who deviate from church rules.
A powerful subject, already dealt with in other films, but one that promises a fresh look at this period.
The Independent reports that Cillian Murphy is already “heavily involved in the planning [du film] and will probably be making more appearances in New Ross over the coming weeks and months.
The finished film is scheduled for international release in 2024.
Meanwhile, Cillian Murphy’s latest film “Oppenheimer” is set to debut in cinemas in July 2023. Another eagerly-awaited film, which should see Cillian Murphy shine once again with his great talent!
