He spent much of his childhood in foster care, after his mother died of a drug overdose. He and his brother were in their grandmother’s care for some time, before moving on to various foster homes.
This period of his life was emotionally challenging, but it also instilled in him a resilience and maturity that have become key elements of his personality.
Although his circumstances were difficult, Barry found an escape in the arts, and particularly in film. Early on, he began dreaming of a career as an actor, a dream he never abandoned despite the obstacles in his path. It was this passion for cinema that gave him the will to persevere and overcome the challenges he faced.
Keoghan began his acting career at the age of 17, starring in the short film Between the Canals. He then made his television debut in the series Love/Hate (2013-2014).
In 2017, Keoghan played George Mills in the film The Killing of a Sacred Deer. The film is a psychological thriller directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. Keoghan’s performance earned him critical acclaim and the Best Actor award at the Dublin International Film Festival.
However, it was his role in Christopher Nolan’s film “Dunkirk” that really catapulted him onto the international scene. In this critically acclaimed war film, he plays a young sailor, and his subtle yet powerful performance was very well received.
Since then, the actor has made one film after another. His most notable roles include Inisherin’s The Banshees, where he stars alongside Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. His performance got him noticed, and led to new films on the Hollywood scene…
With several other films and series in the pipeline, it’s clear that the future is bright for this talented young actor.
