Brian O’Driscoll is a very popular Irish rugby player. Currently captain of the country’s national rugby team, he is regarded as the Shamrock XV’s greatest asset, and commands the admiration and support of many Irish fans.
Brian O’Driscoll was born in Dublin on January 21, 1979. He discovered rugby at an early age, joining clubs as a child and playing regularly. O’Driscoll soon set himself the goal of turning professional.
His goal was finally achieved in 1999, when he joined the Irish national team as a three-quarter center. Right from the start, O’Driscoll was a surprisingly good player: his stature (95kgs for 1m79) gave him great speed in his actions, enabling him to easily break through defenses, and resist the most solid tackles, even in full run.
Fans quickly fell in love with the young man. Everyone nicknamed him BOD, and T-shirts bearing the words“In BOD we trust” began to circulate in stadiums.
In 2004, O’Driscoll was named captain of the Shamrock team: a true consecration for the Dubliner, who led his team to second place in the Six Nations Tournament and the Triple Crown. In 2009, the victory was total: the captain led his team to first place in the Tournoi des VI Nations, achieving the Grand Slam.
