Father Ted

Father Ted is a British-Irish series featuring the adventures of 3 priests and their housekeeper, living on the bangs of society on Craggy Island, off the coast of Ireland. Exiled to this island because of their borderline behavior, the series plays on stereotypes, with a relaxed, comic tone…

Father Ted

An offbeat series about Catholic priests

Broadcast on Channel 4 from 1995 to 1998, Father Ted follows the adventures of three eccentric priests, all of whom are plagued by their own ambitions and failings. All exiled for having overstepped their bounds on the continent, they now live apart from the world, where they can indulge in all their sins and faults! This trio includes :

  • Ted Crilly, exiled to Craggy Island for embezzling church donations,
  • Jack Hackett, exiled for his recurrent alcoholism and passion for women,
  • Dougal McGuire, exiled for his simple-mindedness, wavering faith and moody behavior.

The series unfolds in a comedic atmosphere worthy of Monty Python. The priests use potty humor, the gags are light and often borderline, and the image of the church takes a severe hit. In short, the tone is set, and the characters are propelled to the height of caricature!

All in all, a pretty fun series!
