Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Une scène de Harry Potter tournée face aux Falaises de Moher en Irlande

Several scenes were shot in Ireland!

Everyone knows the Harry Potter saga… But did you know that one of his films used the Irish countryside as a location? Admittedly, not all of the film was shot in Ireland, but a cult scene from “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” is set on the mythical Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. A magical setting for a grandiose scene, where the fury of the ocean is just as impressive as the mournful beauty of the cliffs… What a program!

Harry Potter, and its scene in Ireland

A crucial scene in the quest for horscruxe

Yes, it’s true… Ireland is only present for one scene in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince… But what a scene!

The Irish landscape was so grandiose, it was an absolute must for a shoot of this scale! It has to be said that it took a masterful location to live up to the scenario! And no other location could have lent itself better to this cinematic masterpiece!

In the film, Harry and Professor Dumbledore are on a quest to find one of the horcruxes needed to destroy Lord Voldemort. They meet on a rock in the middle of the ocean, at the foot of a breathtakingly beautiful cliff, battered by a raging storm.

Those cliffs? These are the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare, just outside Liscannor! Quite simply, they are one of Ireland’s best-known tourist attractions!

Of course, the scene required a great deal of image processing: the two characters were inlaid on the rock, and the storm was created from scratch using special effects. As for the colors, the Cliffs of Moher are rarely this dark, and the sky has been deliberately darkened to give the impression of an end-of-the-world storm.

And the result is magnificent: you get the impression that this is the least hospitable place on Earth! A place that’s both sinister and magnificent!

But rest assured: the Cliffs of Moher are splendid without retouching or cinematographic effects. Every year, thousands of tourists come to admire it!
