House of Guinness

A series dedicated to the Guinness family and their colossal empire!

After Peaky Blinders, director Steve Knight takes on a behemoth of Irish culture: the Guinness family! Produced in collaboration with Netflix, “House of Guinness” will be a multi-episode series set in 19th-century Dublin and New York! And it’s a challenging project, since it will have to present the family saga of one of Ireland’s greatest families: the one behind Guinness beer!

House of Guinness

1868, Dublin, Ireland. The Guinness family buries its patriarch, Benjamin Guinness, an eminent Irishman who took his forefathers’ beer to new heights. But everything remains to be done, and there’s still the question of the succession to this colossal empire.

Who will take over from Benjamin Guinness’ four children? Arthur, Edward, Anne or Ben?

Unless the late Benjamin Guinness had already planned everything, weeks before his death…

A project already eagerly awaited

It seems that Netflix has sniffed out the good stuff. After the success of Peaky Blinders, the platform with the red N seems to have hooked the right fish. What a great idea to propose a new show, in the same vein, with the same director, but this time centred on a family that is as discreet as it is world-famous?

A symbol of commercial success since 1759, the Guinness dynasty fascinates as much as it questions. Who are they? What’s their recipe for success? And above all, haven’t the stakes of their empire altered their family dynamics over the years?

Did the family have to sacrifice everything to get here?

You guessed it: although there’s not much information yet on the upcoming show, Steve Knight intends above all to shed light on the power plays, rivalries and relationships linking each member of the Guinness family in a context where the race to succeed counts for more than anything else.

It remains to be seen how the director will proceed… Will it be a pure historical fresco… or will he opt for a romanticized family saga, cheating with the truth?

Will the image of the Guinness family be tarnished? Or will it be praised?

A series focusing on Ireland, its culture and its entrepreneurial spirit!

Although there are still many grey areas, one thing is certain: the story will take place between Dublin and New York.

It will showcase 19th-century Ireland, an island that until then had lived under British colonial rule. We’ll undoubtedly discover its daily realities, with its culture, the prevailing poverty of the time and also its political stakes.

But most of all, it will focus on the number 1 product sold by the family: Guinness beer! It’s the perfect opportunity to learn more about the history of the world’s most famous Irish stout, from behind the scenes to the production process…and more.

But let’s face it: it would also be a great way to promote the brand, now run by the Diageo group! An effective way of raising the profile of the world’s most exported Irish beer!
