Born on March 17, 1991, Andrew Hozier-Byrne’s passion for music began at the age of 15. Self-taught, he decided to take up the piano and guitar, and joined a soul band.
After studying music at St Gerard’s School, he joined Trinity College University in Dublin, where he was a member of the prestigious Trinity Orchestra, the university’s official orchestra. Highly talented, he was soon spotted by producers, and decided to take a sudden break from his studies to record demos for Universal Music. All he could think about was breaking through and embarking on a solo career.
In July 2013, Hozier made his debut EP, entitled “Take Me To Church” on Bandcamp. The EP features a self-titled single, in which the musician denounces homophobia and intolerance. His deep voice, very similar to that of Wood Kid, had a small effect on the critics. What’s more, the quality of her lyrics makes her a veritable icon of public commitment.
Faced with success, he then released his first studio album in September 2014, and followed it up with a series of TV promos. Let’s wish him a long career!
