From their beginnings to their worldwide success

The band was formed in the mid-1990s and took the name Lúnasa, a Gaelic term referring to the month of August and the mythological god Lug. The band was then made up of 5 virtuoso musicians, some of whom would only play for a short time, before being replaced.

From 1999 onwards, the band enjoyed great success, especially in the USA, where they embarked on extensive tours. Their albums sell by the thousands worldwide, and propel them to the top of the charts in Ireland with each new release.

Today, the band is made up of 5 musicians:

  • Kevin Crawford (flute, whistles, bodhràn)
  • Trevor Hutchinson (bass)
  • Seán Smyth (violin, whistles)
  • Cillian Vallely (uilleann pipes, whistles)
  • Paul Meehan (guitar, banjo)

In terms of music, Lúnasa explores the traditional Irish repertoire first and foremost, allowing themselves to compose the vast majority of their tracks. We particularly appreciate their dynamism and joie de vivre, the ideal cocktail for a successful concert!

But there’s only one regret: their lacklustre presence in France is likely to disappoint French-speaking fans!
