Mary Black is a world-famous Irish singer. We appreciate the purity of her voice, as well as the diversity of her musical inspirations. From traditional Irish music to the most ferocious jazz, Mary Black works with talent to make the most of all possible and unimaginable music… A real treat for the ears!

Mary Black’s career

A childhood in a family of seasoned musicians…

Mary Black was born on May 23, 1955 in Dublin to a violinist father and a singer mother. Mary herself was soon introduced to music, as were her brothers and sister. Mary seems to have been drawn to singing, and since she was a teenager has possessed a voice that she masters with great technical skill. Recognizing her talent, she joined the family band, which performed on some of Dublin’s local stages.

In 1984, Mary Black left the family band to join De Dannan, a traditional Irish music group with light-hearted songs. Mary then discovered the joys of touring, and of contact with the public. Her voice seems to amaze the critics, and the young woman is making a real name for herself in the Irish music world.

Mary Black embarks on a solo career and makes a name for herself

In 1986, she decided to leave the group and embark on a solo career… She then tried her hand at a variety of styles, including Irish, jazz and country… She released a number of albums, and met with real success in Europe and the United States.

In fact, the purity of his voice was so impressive to the public that “What Hi-Fi” magazine decided in the 80s to use his voice as a benchmark to compare the sound quality broadcast by the various radio stations of the day…

His vocal talent is complemented by his mastery of the bodhràn, a particularly difficult Irish percussion instrument. She uses it for most of her Irish songs, and sets her audience alight by beating out the beat with brio.

Buoyed by her success, Mary Black decided to think about her private life too, and married Joe O’Reilly, an Irishman with whom she had three children (Conor, Danny and Roísin O’Reilly). But that doesn’t stop him from touring and recording new albums…

The latest is entitled “Full Tide”, and was launched in 2005. Once again, the singer is recognized as one of Ireland’s greatest musical talents… much to the delight of her fans. A new album is due for release in 2010, but Mary Black is keeping a low profile for the time being…
