The Fall is a Northern Irish series currently enjoying widespread success across Europe and the United States. It’s a detective series created by Allan Cubitt and broadcast since May 12, 2013 in Ireland on RTÉ One and since May 13, 2013 in the UK on BBC Two. A well-crafted series that’s sure to thrill you from the very first episode!
The Fall is set in modern-day Belfast, within the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). Completely overwhelmed by a series of murders of rare violence that have been taking place for over a month in Belfast, the PSNI decides to call in Divisional Superintendent Stella Gibson of the Metropolitan Police Service to re-examine the case.
And so begins a long investigation, in which the young woman decides not to leave anything to chance, and to take the case from the beginning.
Meanwhile, Paul Spector (played by Jamie Dornan), the man behind the murders, continues to commit his crimes, methodically leaving no trace…
If the series is currently so successful, it’s above all thanks to the impeccable performances of its 2 leads. Gillian Anderson (Scully in X Files) takes on the role of a strong-willed woman, determined to take on a terrifying and enigmatic killer played by Jamie Dornan. The series chose to shoot its scenes from 2 angles: while Detective Superintendent Gibson tries to carry out his investigation, the viewer is invited to follow the actions and daily life of Paul Spector, the cold, two-faced perpetrator of these unbearable crimes.
As the audience tries to get to the bottom of this criminal’s mind, the noose seems to gradually tighten, and we quickly find ourselves sucked into an atmosphere rich in suspense and emotion.
Special praise goes to actor Jamie Dornan, who portrays an atypical criminal who is as cold as he is fascinating, and who has no qualms about leading a double life to conceal his crimes.
In short: a must-try series!
