The festive season in Ireland stretches over several weeks, and always ends with Women’s Little Christmas, held on January 6 each year. It’s a sort of “women’s Christmas”, with no household chores allowed. The men take care of the housework and cooking, while their girlfriends celebrate their day at the pub! Simple and user-friendly!
Women’s Little Christmas is a day that marks the end of the festive season. The origins of Women’s Little Christmas lie in the counties of Kerry and Cork. But now the practice is more widespread in the country.
It pays homage to Irish women, exempting them from the usual household chores. This gives them the chance to spend some quality time together, whether at a pub, a restaurant…etc.
Whether with girlfriends, sisters or family, they enjoy a well-deserved break, and are even lucky enough to receive gifts from their children. A sort of early Mother’s Day!
