But what exactly has been going on at Dublin Airport over the past few days? A strange chaos has reigned there since the beginning of the week, creating stress and anger among users. In fact, there are numerous videos circulating on social networks, showing endless queues of passengers forced to wait outside on the sidewalk to pass through security! An extraordinary situation, which even caused travellers to miss their flights, even though they were more than ready to board!

Every year around Easter, Dublin airport is under strain. Many Irish people want to fly abroad to celebrate Easter at this time of year.

However, Dublin Airport is currently experiencing difficulties linked to the last few months of Covid-19. While the epidemic situation is under control, and international travel has been able to resume, the plant is suffering from a shortage of security personnel…

This situation is creating a real bottleneck in passenger queues, causing stress and anxiety among travellers at the thought of missing their plane.

These interminable queues sometimes start on the airport forecourt and end up more than 500 metres away on the sidewalk! An unbelievable situation, which made Dublin the second most stressful airport to travel through in Europe at Easter.

Dublin Airport is second only to Heathrow Airport, according to a survey by Legacy Communications’ The Digital PR Hub.

This situation is temporary, and concerns only flights departing from Dublin, not arrivals.

Nevertheless, the next few days are likely to be tense, due to the massive departures from Dublin. The airport has already communicated its apologies and current difficulties. To mitigate the situation as best as possible, she encouraged users departing from Dublin to follow the following advice:

  • get to the airport as early as possible to catch your flight
  • anticipate safety instructions in order to streamline controls:
    • avoid transporting prohibited objects and substances
    • pack liquids, creams and other sensitive products in cabin baggage in transparent bags that are easy to remove and visually inspect
    • avoid belt buckles and other metal objects when passing through the security gate
    • …etc.
