Summer has a special flavour for Trinity College University, Dublin. While thousands of tourists currently flock to admire its historic Old Library, the premises will officially close for 3 years. This closure to the public will start in October, and will allow a vast restoration project to begin on the library…
Tick tock, tick tock… The clock is ticking and the countdown seems to be accelerating inexorably. Only a few weeks remain for travelers to enjoy the magnificence of Trinity College’s Old Library.
Not to mention the famous Book of Kells, a medieval manuscript where calligraphy and illumination come together to form one of Ireland’s greatest historical treasures!
Ranked in the pantheon of Dublin’s finest historical and tourist attractions, the Old Library is without doubt an exceptional place. With its Hogwarts-like atmosphere, century-old shelves and books some of which are centuries old, the place is a concentrate of history and knowledge.
So don’t delay your visit to Trinity College to admire all its splendour! You’ve only got a few weeks before the establishment closes its doors…
And you’ll have to be patient: the University of Dublin plans to restore its library over a three-year period… The aim is to improve storage conditions for the works stored there, and to make the building even more fire-safe… All with the utmost respect for the architectural history of the site!
It’s a tough but necessary project, but one that will deprive tourists and travellers of access to the library.
