Did you know? Released in cinemas last month, Dungeons & Dragons, starring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and Hugh Grant, used Northern Ireland’s magnificent scenery for its filming! Based on the popular role-playing game that became a cult classic in the 1970s, this film adaptation draws on Ireland’s exceptional nature and breathtaking vistas to plunge viewers into the heart of a darkly charming World! Here’s an overview of the different filming locations.
It’s not the first time that Northern Ireland has been used by Hollywood as a film location. After the Game of Thrones series and the film “The Northman”, it’s now the turn of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor of Thieves to set its story in the heart of Northern Ireland’s tormented landscapes.
And the region’s most beautiful tourist sites were used for the occasion! The Giant’s Causeway, Glenarm Castle, Dunluce Castle in County Antrim… these are just some of the major sites that have always been part of Northern Ireland’s tourist jewels!

Dungeons & Dragons was filmed in Northern Ireland
The result is stunningly beautiful on-screen images! The scenes are both dark and beautiful, and should transport fans of the genre to the familiar world of Dungeons & Dragons!
It’s a well-known fact: every time a Hollywood film is released in Ireland, thousands of moviegoers decide to take their plane tickets to visit the filming locations!
Proof of this can be found in the film The Banshees of Inisherin, the series Vikings and Game of Thrones… Each time, the audience was seduced by the scenery, making them want to visit the Irish country!
A reaction that Irish Tourism and Tourism Northern Ireland have understood well. That’s why the two organizations, together with Dungeons & Dragons, have decided to go all out on communications, inviting journalists from the UK, USA, Germany, France, Spain and Belgium to visit Northern Ireland. The aim was to enable them to discover some of the locations used in the filming of Dungeons & Dragons, so that they could relay their experience to the press.
Tourism Ireland’s aim is to capitalize on the huge popularity of the film – reminding viewers that it was filmed here, whetting their curiosity about the locations and inspiring them to come and explore them in the real world,” said Tourism Ireland.
A strategy that should boost tourism in 2023, and give Dungeons & Dragons fans the chance to experience the unique wilderness of Northern Ireland!
