Eating Irish food in France: we tested it for you From Ireland!
From Irlande

Many Internet users contact us with the same request: “Do you know where you can get Irish breakfast sausages? Irish salmon, black pudding or cheese from the island of Ireland? All in France, Belgium and Switzerland?“. The question was sometimes difficult to answer. Because Irish products are rather rare on French-speaking soil, and although some Comptoirs irlandais sometimes offer them (especially in the Paris area), it’s almost impossible to find fresh produce “made in Ireland” in French-speaking countries (with the exception of salmon, of course, which you can even find in supermarkets).

That’s why we decided to test a nice alternative solution for you. If you miss Ireland and its gastronomy that much, why not have your products imported directly from Ireland? That’s why we’ve discovered a French company that can ship you 100% Irish products. Its name: From-Ireland. The latter are unaware of our test (no, this article is not sponsored), and we took the opportunity to have some Irish breakfast sausages delivered to our testers in France. Perfect for testing service quality and merchandise!

What is From Irlande?

From-Irlande: this is the name of the French company that has succeeded in the crazy and rather cool challenge of offering its web users artisanal Irish products. Their niche: importing fresh Irish food products. Salmon, cheeses, charcuterie, Irish bread mixes, spice blends for Irish stew…

The online store has chosen to restrict its catalog to products recognized throughout Ireland for their quality. They call on local producers, who focus on local Irish produce. These include the famous Burren Smokehouse, a fish smokehouse specializing in smoked salmon, Clonakilty’s famous sausages (and black pudding), and Guinness cheese from Cahills Cheese Factory. Local spirits from renowned Irish distilleries are also available. In short, it’s the perfect way to get a taste of Ireland’s finest gastronomy.

And let’s face it: the site favors choice dishes. There are few products, but they are all quality foods that are highly acclaimed in the world of Irish gastronomy. They are part of everyday Irish life, but some are also luxury products (like Irish smoked salmon, for example).

Our experience

After a quick visit to their website, we decided to find out for ourselves and place an order.

So we decided to order sausages from Clonakilty. Perfect for breakfast, they’re pretty hard to find in France, and we were curious to see how From Ireland would handle the order.

So we decided to order 4 packs of 454g Irish sausages… all for 39€. Delivery included. The price seemed reasonable to us, as each pack contains 16 sausages (an adult consumes between 4 and 6 for a proper Irish breakfast… that’s enough to last a few weeks). But beware, these products are perishable, and can only be refrigerated for a week or so. The site itself encourages you to buy them… and then freeze them. To last longer and enjoy as you please. Not a bad idea: it’s even perfect for prolonging the pleasure!

A word of clarification: the store operates by “arrival” date. This is what determines your future delivery date. Basically, the store receives new fresh products on a regular basis, and dispatches them immediately to fill current orders. This means anticipating your delivery date as far as possible, because remember: products are fresh, and can’t be postponed (products are perishable, and can only last a few days at most, provided they’re kept cool).

In fact, transport is handled by Chronofood: perfect for keeping the cold chain intact. Everything is done by refrigerated truck, and you are notified 24 hours before your products arrive.

Once delivered, unpacking went smoothly: the sausages were there, perfectly fresh and packaged in their box and isothermal paper. On tasting, everything was perfect. The taste was there, as was the quality, and it brought back a bit of Ireland for our French testers…

To sum up, From Ireland is a good address for importing fresh produce “made in Ireland”. Of course, you’ll depend on when their products arrive, but the service is pleasant, efficient and fast. Perfect for bringing a little Ireland to your plate, for a reasonable price.
