Champ (brúitín in Irish) is a typical Irish specialty that shares many similarities with another Irish dish: Colcannon. Cooked with potatoes and onions, it’s delicious!
Champ (also known as poundies in some parts of Ireland) is a dish most often found in Irish pubs. It consists of mashed potatoes, onions, butter, milk and pepper. An economical dish, but still delicious, provided you’ve spent the day hiking all over Ireland!
Note that there are variations on Champ, and that you can also add mushrooms, cream, bacon or a little cabbage.
Expect to pay less than €7 for a dish in an Irish Pub. This dish is most often accompanied by a pint of Irish stout: a perfect marriage of flavours! (but consume in moderation).
