We’re warning you right now: this article is for gourmets! Fudge is one of Ireland’s most popular local sweets! And we won’t prove them wrong: this “bonbon” is delicious as can be! A must-taste when you visit the Emerald Isle!

Taste the fudges

A tasty confection, made in the purest tradition!

Fudge is pretty easy to make. It’s a candy with Anglo-Saxon origins, made from butter, sugar and milk… Most often, an additional ingredient is added to flavor the fudge… Chocolate, vanilla, cider, whiskey, peanuts, nuts, dried fruit… The possibilities are endless and depend on individual taste!

The mixture is then blended and heated to a temperature of 116 degrees. The mixture is then cooled while stirring, giving it a caramel-like texture, smooth and creamy at the same time!

As far as tasting goes, we warn you: it’s frighteningly good! Melt-in-your-mouth and rich in sweet flavours, Irish fudge is a delight you’ll soon get used to!

Where can you find them in Ireland?

There are many patisseries and chocolate shops in Ireland that sell them. But some brands are more popular than others. Among them, we recommend the one that produces Dingle Fudges! Based on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, this company makes original fudges that are famous all over Ireland!

Chocolate, almond, whiskey and fruit fudges… Their sweets are as astonishing as they are original!

Cost of Irish fudges

I promise you, your wallet won’t mind: fudges are generally quite affordable! Expect to pay between €1 and €2 a piece! Admittedly, some manufacturers charge a little more for them (especially when they are traditionally made by well-known names).

Let’s just say it’s a bit like French macaroons: it all depends on where you buy them! In supermarkets, it’s quite inexpensive, whereas you’ll have to pay a few extra euros at the big chains! But after all, it tastes so good, why deprive yourself?
