Bunratty Castle & Folk Park is organizing a whole week dedicated to Halloween! It will be packed with attractions and will allow you to discover the 100% Irish origins of this once pagan festival!
The castle’s aim is to highlight the Irish traditions associated with Samain (formerly known as Halloween). And the activities promise to be a lot of fun!
So you can dress up in traditional Halloween costumes, provided on site. You can then wander around the castle and the adjoining folk park to scare other visitors to death!
Another attraction is the castle and its scary stories! The program includes light and sound shows, ghostly apparitions and anecdotes about Bunratty Castle’s troubled history. Let the guides tell you all about the deadly dungeon or the monstrous murder hole. You’ll be shaking with fear!
Traditionally, Halloween wouldn’t have existed without Ireland. It was originally a 100% Irish pagan festival, celebrating the beginning of winter. Bunratty Folk Park takes you back to its roots to explain how Samain was celebrated.
You’ll learn that this festival is over 2,500 years old… That we used to eat homemade apple pie and barm brack (an Irish cake… But also that turnips and pumpkins were dug up to make scary Jack O’Lanterns.
That’s why the village plans to give you a taste of everything. You can even try your hand at pumpkin carving!
Some of the fairies at Bunratty Folk Park got into the Halloween spirit and transformed their magical fairy village into a spooky forest for all to enjoy.
Watch out for spooky creatures lurking behind trees, horrifying tombstones and petrifying pumpkins at every turn!
If the program appeals to you, you should know that the festival will run from Saturday, October 23 to 31, 2021. You can reserve your place on the website: https: //www.bunrattycastle.ie
