The heatwave didn’t spare Ireland this week! The country even recorded record temperatures with 33.1°C in Phoenix Park, Dublin. Admittedly, the temperatures were much lower than those in France and Great Britain, but it was a first for Ireland, which had not experienced such heat for 135 years!

The heatwave also hit Ireland hard

Up to 33.1°C in the heart of Dublin!

Climate change is currently on everyone’s lips. The recent heatwave in Europe, including Ireland, has had the merit of raising awareness.

The figures speak for themselves. In July, Ireland is unaccustomed to temperatures in excess of 30°C… and Dublin exceeded it by a wide margin, with no less than 33.1°C in the heart of Phoenix Park. Sweltering temperatures, for an island used to high rainfall and a temperate oceanic climate.

This record had previously been set in Kilkenny in June 1887, with temperatures of over 33.3°C… Over 135 years ago!

Fortunately, Ireland weathered the heatwave better than its European counterparts. Temperatures were relatively milder than in Britain or France, allowing travelers to enjoy the sunshine and wide-open spaces of Ireland.

At the start of this week, the beaches and lakeshores of Ireland were literally taken by storm!

Only the Irish water authority, Irish Water, was keen to raise public awareness of the need for proper management of the country’s water resources. He called on the Irish people to follow a few common-sense rules: no car washing, no watering of gardens, reasonable water consumption, and short showers were among the restrictions to be followed.

But rest assured: temperatures will return to normal today, with a few showers expected across the country. The weather will be milder, with daily temperatures in line with seasonal averages. The weather will even be changeable at times, in typical Irish fashion!
