Alan and Catherine Boyers, the keepers of the Kinsale lighthouse, shared an unusual encounter on social networks: a fox ventured up to the lighthouse’s upper platform in mid-February.
Probably taking advantage of a door opened by the strong winds, the agile fox climbed the tower to find refuge on the upper walkway, several dozen meters above the ocean.
The Boyers discovered the animal peacefully asleep, offering a touching scene against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean. It would seem that the animal arrived here to protect itself from a storm that was sweeping along the Irish coast at the time…

It wouldn’t be long before the fox scurried off after his oceanic break… No doubt back to his den, somewhere on the Kinsale peninsula (not far from his golf club, or the coastline).
But already, the video has gone viral on the Web, shared and liked by thousands.
Some joked that the fox was simply looking for an unobstructed view, while others emphasized the magic of seeing wildlife interact with historic places like this lighthouse.
This story is a reminder that, even in places as remote as Irish lighthouses, nature always finds a way to surprise us!
