A rare phenomenon was filmed on Monday evening: a greenish-colored meteor streaked across the Irish sky, provoking fascination and amazement.
A phenomenon corroborated by Astronomy Ireland, as well as by many Irish people from the regions of Clare, Cork, Athlone, Fermanagh and Mayo… (The meteor was even sighted from Wales).
In a video captured by an eyewitness, the meteor appears as a large green fireball, moving at high speed across the dark sky. The video’s author, Sean Linehan, is said to have filmed this impressive meteor as it passed through the village of Banteer, north of Cork.
The footage was recorded at around 7 p.m. on Monday evening, while he was in his car.
We let you discover the video:
@CorkSafetyAlert @rtenews @Corks96FM Just caught this on my dashcam outside Banteer, Cork. Bright meteor/fireball flashing across the sky. Footage doesn't do it justice, very cool. #greatballsoffire pic.twitter.com/87ey9nvuhH

Astronomical experts have confirmed that it was indeed a meteor in perdition. Its green color is said to be caused by the meteor’s high friction with the air.
Nevertheless, we can’t help but be amused by the coincidence of this green meteor flying over green Ireland!
