VIDEO – Ireland is currently in peak basking shark season! Harmless to humans, these sharks usually spawn near the Irish coast between April and August. And although they’re harmless, their encounters with humans are always very impressive!

And the kayakers of Ardmore in County Waterford won’t disagree: they’re the ones who recently posted a video on YouTube showing a group of basking sharks evolving beneath their feet. Pacifists, they swim and feed quietly, while the kayakers try to film them with their waterproof camera.

The spectacle is breathtaking, especially as these sea monsters can reach up to 12 metres in length! Not to mention their mouths, which, once wide open, seem ready to swallow you whole!

Fortunately, the basking shark is harmless to humans: it feeds only on plankton, and its teeth are so small that it couldn’t bite you… So much for the myth of Jaws!
