Time flies: this year, the Wild Atlantic Way celebrates its 10th anniversary! An important anniversary, one that consecrates one of the world’s most beautiful coastal roads! As a reminder, this is a typically Irish road, running along the Atlantic coast for almost 2,500km. Spectacular, with landscapes that border on the grandiose… and so famous that it attracts thousands of visitors every year!
When it comes to promoting its tourism, the island of Ireland is never short of ideas! And among the most notable concepts, all credit goes to Fáilte Ireland, who invented the Wild Atlantic Way concept in 2014.
This national organization came up with the brilliant idea of promoting tourism along Ireland’s west coast, by giving a new name to the existing coastal route along the Atlantic Ocean: the Wild Atlantic Way.
Measuring 2,500km in length, this road has the unique advantage of being the longest route along the Atlantic Ocean. It starts in County Cork and ends in County Donegal.
Above all, it offers travellers an immersive experience in the heart of Ireland’s wide open spaces, with its diverse landscapes of cliffs, mountains, beaches, bays and green expanses!
But that’s not all: beyond the natural beauty of Ireland’s west coast, the Wild Atlantic Way is packed with exceptional tourist attractions! Ruined castles, mysterious dolmens, museums, distilleries, national parks… The route is dotted with activities for the whole family… and there’s something for everyone!
The Wild Atlantic Way has become a must-see for travellers: it’s estimated that several hundred thousand tourists come especially to walk this route!
A great success, and a new lease of life for trips to Ireland.
