But let’s admit it, nothing compares to the major Irish cities for spending Paddy’s Day under the best conditions.
Celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day in Dublin
Let’s be clear: there is no better place than Dublin to celebrate St Patrick’s! The Irish capital is the global epicenter of the celebration! And you quickly understand why when you look at the program offered each year by the city!
First, Dublin is the most legitimate city to celebrate St Patrick’s! Primarily because it is the capital of the Republic of Ireland. It is therefore logical that everything happens there!
But there is also its parade: its grand parade is unique in the world and attracts thousands of visitors every year! Thousands of performers march through the streets on gigantic floats with magical colors! Irish history and culture are then honored. The show is simply magical! The pipe bands (bagpipers) are also part of it, as well as numerous dancers and other performers ready to ignite the crowd!
Beyond Dublin’s Grand Parade, the city is also perfect for Saint Patrick’s Day thanks to its famous Temple Bar district… This legendary Dublin neighborhood is truly worth a visit during the celebration! The atmosphere is electric, pints of Irish beer are emptied to the rhythm of traditional Irish jigs, and the Irish compete in creativity to celebrate the event! (Warning for those with agoraphobia: the area is usually packed even in the streets, and it can be difficult to walk around!)
Celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day in Cork
Certainly, Dublin is undoubtedly essential during Saint Patrick’s Day. But it is not the only Irish city to come alive! Cork, the rebel city, is also a top destination to discover the celebration!
The city in the southwest of Ireland also offers a very full program: the streets are adorned in green, Irish pubs are packed, and music and beer flow freely! Parades are also organized, although they are less impressive than those in the capital.
Finally, Cork is perfect for organizing the famous “pub crawls.” This is a typical tradition that consists of visiting many Irish pubs within a given time! Perfect to dive into different atmospheres while enjoying the festive Irish spirit!
