Full house for The Banshees of Inisherin! The film directed by Martin McDonagh has just caused a sensation by winning 3 awards at the Golden Globes! A flurry of awards, including Best Comedy, Best Actor in a Comedy for Colin Farrell and Best Screenplay for Martin McDonagh. It’s a great achievement, especially for Colin Farrell, who had been unfairly overlooked by the awards since his role as Alexander the Great.
Last night was a moment of consecration for the actors and directors who have worked so hard on their projects. And the 2023 Golden Globes only had 2 major films in the lead: Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans… and Martin McDonagh’s The Banshee of Inisherin, which tells the tragicomic story of a broken friendship in a remote and wild Ireland.
With Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson joining forces, the cast already promised a film of the highest quality. Add to this the breathtaking wilderness landscapes filmed onAchill Island andInishmore, and you have a gritty, intimate nugget of great subtlety!
Fortunately for Martin McDonagh, the Golden Globes were clearly moved by his work… awarding the film 3 nominations!
A confirmation of the film’s excellence… which should pave the way for potential Oscar nominations in the coming months.
Special mention goes to Colin Farrell, Hollywood’s unloved child, who has often shone in his films, but has regularly been overlooked and ignored. For the Irish actor, this Golden Globe nomination sounds like a real revenge!
