Good to Know

Practical info

How do I get there?

Achill Island has the advantage of being an island connected to the mainland by a bridge.

  • By bus from Westport: 2 buses per day connect Westport to Achill Sound via Newport.
  • On foot: take the Great Western Greenway, a 42 km former railway line rehabilitated and accessible to walkers and cyclists, which allows you to travel from Westport to Achill Island.

Don't forget

Achill Island is often crowded in summer. Book your accommodations as early as possible to avoid being turned away on the day.

Otherwise, prefer accommodation in Newport after leaving the island.
