Peaky Blinders: Cillian Murphy confirms his participation in the film
The Peaky Blinders - Peaky Blinders

It’s a hot time for Irish actors! After winning the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy is set to return for the eagerly-awaited Peaky Blinders movie! Directed by Steve Knight, who was also director on the original series, the film is already being eagerly awaited by fans of the original series!

Shooting date already revealed

So it’s official: in an interview with UK website Birmingham World, Steve Knight confirmed that there will indeed be a Peaky Blinders movie! Shooting will begin in September 2024, and will feature the immense Cillian Murphy, who so fascinated us with his character Thomas Shelby.

After 6 seasons of a flamboyant series, it’s time for a feature film! And Cillian Murphy, multiple award-winner for his role in Oppenheimer (becoming the first Irishman to win an Oscar for a male lead), will once again play Thomas Shelby, leader of the Peaky Blinders gang.

As for the script, Steven Knigh (who is already working on House of Guinness, a series dedicated to the family behind the Irish beer of the same name) has confirmed that it will be a story set in the early days of the Second World War. The plot continues throughout the conflict, right up to the end of the war.

The film will take place at the heart of the Second World War and beyond. The film will see the world move, and once we reach World War II, we’ll see how far it takes us,” he told DigitalSpy.

Speculation is already rife as to what might happen in terms of plot. But Birmingham will undoubtedly be the setting for the film, as in the series.

It should feature an older Thomas Shelby (around 49), facing gang conflicts against a backdrop of World War II.

It’s a program that promises a great show, served up by a prestigious cast and a keen sense of ultra-articulate imagery. One thing’s for sure: Irish actor Cillian Murphy is still churning out hit movies!
