CLIMATE IN IRELAND – The very serious Climate Central, a research organization specializing in climate issues, has just delivered some very frightening forecasts on climate disruption and its possible impact on Ireland and its territory.
Using an interactive map, the researchers reveal which regions of the country are at risk of disappearing as a result of rising sea levels in the event of global warming.
And the findings are frightening to say the least: with a rise of 2°C, parts of Dublin, Cork and Galway could be submerged by rising sea levels. In particular, their ports and other maritime access points, as well as certain coastal areas… This would displace thousands of Irish people, and destroy thousands of jobs.
What’s more, current and future storms are said to be accelerating the island’s natural erosion, leading Ireland to shrink considerably by 2100.
A worrying projection, which confirms the Irish government’s interest in speeding up its efforts to reduce CO2 emissions.
As a reminder, the Irish government has already launched a climate-friendly plan, declaring a state of climate emergency for the country, deciding to plant up to 440 million trees by 2040and is reportedly implementing an aggressive policy to end the use of fossil fuels on its territory within 20 years.
Inspired measures that will have to be stepped up: otherwise, the Ireland of today will change its face irrevocably…
