Dublin is currently considering the development of a brand new district, located on the grounds of the Guinness brewery. Dubbed “The Guinness Quarter”, the project will transform a number of industrial sites under Diageo ownership into a vast complex of state-of-the-art homes, equipped with every modern convenience! A sneak preview of an exciting project!

The Guinness Quarter: an ambitious project that will change the face of Dublin!

The city’s first zero-carbon district!

Dublin is a constantly expanding capital… The need for housing continues to grow, and the development of new districts is becoming increasingly urgent to revitalize the capital.

Diageo and Ballymore have understood this, and have come up with an ambitious project. Their aim: to create Dublin’s first ever zero-carbon neighborhood. The aim is to develop residential buildings, commercial zones and leisure areas, all set in green, pedestrian-friendly public spaces!

The district would be located right next to the Guinness Storehouse and would include :

  • 336 homes, including 20% social housing managed by The Iveagh Trust
  • A new 300-seat auditorium
  • A market and food hall, showcasing Irish crafts and products, located next to a new central public space.
  • A hotel, developed in Victorian-era buildings along James Street
  • A wide range of commercial spaces,
  • More than two hectares of public outdoor spaces, landscaped to “create pockets of greenery to surprise and delight”.

Speaking at the unveiling of the “Quartier Guinness” plan, David Killion of Ballymore said:

Our vision and plan is that, when completed, the Guinness Quarter will be one of the finest examples of sustainable, urban development, embracing the community, cultural, social and industrial heritage of this part of Dublin. Aware that the site is an integral part of the region’s history, Ballymore is honored to be the custodian of this project.

For the time being, the project has not yet been accepted by the city. But the first proposals are proving to be exciting, and could well see the light of day in the next few years.
