Following the huge success of the film“The Banshees of Inisherin“, the fictional Irish pub “JJ Devine’s Pub” was built for good! Now a full-fledged attraction in Ireland, it’s sure to attract movie buffs and travelers alike who want to immerse themselves in the magic of the film! The family-run Mee’s Bar in Kilkerrin has created a carbon copy of the JJ Devine. As a reminder, it was here in this Irish pub that much of the action of the Oscar-nominated film took place.
Ever since the film Banshees of Inisherin was released this year, Ireland has seen a steady influx of tourists! The work that brings Colin Farrel and Brendan Gleeson to the screen manages to sublimate all of Ireland’s wild island beauty!
With its majestic shots of cliffs, rolling plains and blue ocean, the film has become a veritable walking advertisement for Irish travel!
JJ Devine’s Pub from the film Banshee of Inisherin
A phenomenon that gave ideas to Luke Mee, his sister Kathleen and partner Pat Igoe, who owned Mee’s Bar, an Irish pub near Galway. According to The Independent , Luke’s wife Carmel is originally from Achill Island, and part of her family worked on the Banshees set during filming.
They wanted to breathe new life into this Irish pub, so they rigorously rebuilt it, completely renaming their existing bar Mee’s Bar! And they’ve gone to great lengths to make the Irish pub as identical as possible to the one in the film! They watched the film over and over again, meticulously matching every detail of the set!
We spent every spare minute putting it together,” Luke told the Independent. We watched the film just to make sure everything was right, because it was a puzzle. Obviously, when it was dismantled, there were no plans to rebuild it, and that’s really how it happened.
The rebuilt JJ Devine’s now stands proudly outside Mee’s, and boasts a thick thatched roof. A faithful replica, he even has a donkey named Holly!
He’s like the donkey in the film, constantly walking after you and putting his chin on your knee when you sit down, he’s a little pet,” Luke told the Independent.
There’s no doubt that the address is already attracting crowds! The pub offers everything you’d expect from a classic Irish pub. Patinated counter, drinks, traditional decor and Irish music sessions!
The owner of the premises did not fail to extend an invitation to the stars of the film. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farell respond favorably: it would be a nice wink!
