If you, too, find it hard to resist the occasional burger, and love the efficiency and simplicity of fast food, Ireland has plenty of fast food chains to choose from. It’s a great opportunity to eat on the go, on a budget, and to treat yourself!

After all, Ireland is still an Anglo-Saxon country, where the fast-food culture is deeply rooted. In major Irish cities like Dublin, you only have to count the number of fast-food outlets on the city’s main thoroughfares! We’re not talking gourmet food here, but an occasional meal can be fun and suitable for the whole family.

To help you find your way around, here’s a small selection of Ireland’s most popular fast-food restaurants!

Ireland’s top fast-food restaurants

1. Bunsen

Bunsen

Bunsen

Bunsen is one of the best references for simple but incredibly tasty burgers. Their burgers, made with fresh, quality ingredients, are often considered the best of their kind.

For the record, Bunsen is an Irish fast-food chain founded in 2013, which quickly made a name for itself thanks to its contrarian approach to the competition. Because Bunsen takes a unique approach, offering an extremely simple, uncluttered menu. Unlike many fast-food restaurants, which offer an almost overwhelming variety of options, the chain focuses on the essentials: a simple menu, offering just 4 possible burgers!

This is clearly an artisanal burger, far from the industrial chains!

For the moment, Bunsen only exists in Dublin, Cork and Belfast. But the chain is growing fast, and is set to expand elsewhere!

Menu

As you can see, there are no dozens of burgers and variations to choose from! At Bunsen, we only offer :

  • a hamburger,
  • a double hamburger,
  • a cheeseburger
  • a double cheesburger

And that’s all there is to it!

Bunsen’s menu is reduced to the essentials, allowing them to concentrate on the quality of each element. Burgers are prepared with high-quality Irish beef, cooked to perfection and served with fresh ingredients such as lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles.

Rest assured, you’ll also be able to enjoy fries in two styles: fine fries or sweet potato fries, both crisp and delicious.

Finally, the chain offers a selection of drinks, including creamy milkshakes that are the perfect complement to a meal.

Rates :

Bunsen offers burgers from €8.75 to €12.65. For fries, expect to pay between €4 and €6, and between €3 and €6 for a drink or milkshake.

2. Eddie Rocket’s

Eddie Rocket's

Eddie Rocket’s

Eddie Rocket’s takes you back in time with its retro 50s American diner vibe. Their burgers, milkshakes and spicy fries will take you back to a nostalgic, gourmet era, US-style.

This 100% Irish chain was created in 1989 by Niall Fortune. You might as well say it’s an institution!

We love its retro ambience, which perfectly recreates the atmosphere of American diners. Old-school decor, red vinyl banquettes with a patina, Formica tables, chrome jukeboxes and colorful neon lights! Perfect for transporting yourself to the heart of a bygone era in American culture.

Menu

Eddie Rocket’s menu is varied, focusing on classic American diners.

Expect burgers including the Cheeeze Pleeeze, Smokestack and M50 Upgrade, all made with Irish beef. Some are dizzyingly high, and a clever stack! All delicious!

You can also choose from fries, chicken tenders, thick and creamy milkshakes, French fries, hot dogs and salads.

Dessert options include sundaes, brownies and cheesecakes.

Rates :

Expect a meal of around €10 to €15 per person.

3. Supermac’s

Supermac's

Supermac’s

Supermac’s remains Ireland’s No. 1 national fast-food chain!

Founded in 1978 by Pat McDonagh in Ballinasloe, County Galway, the establishment has become a true Irish institution. The proof is in the pudding: there are no fewer than 100 establishments across the country!

Menu :

I might as well warn you, Supermac’s offers an ultra-diverse menu, ranging from burgers and sandwiches (called “SuperSubs”) to wraps, buckets (buckets of nuggets, sausages, potatoes, etc.) and salads.

Their chicken tenders and garlic cheese fries are a must!

As a side dish, you can also choose between fries, wedges or onion rings.

The fast-food restaurant also offers Irish breakfasts. Don’t miss their super breakfast (a plate of eggs, bacon, sausages and slices of bread) or their breakfast roll, a kind of sandwich with all the ingredients of a traditional Irish breakfast.

And kids won’t be outdone, either, with a kids’ menu featuring fried burgers, sausages and nuggets.

Pizzas are also available.

Last but not least, you’ll find a pretty nice selection of desserts and milkshakes: cookie ice cream, muffins, sundae, or even ice cream cones are all on the menu.

Rates :

Supermac’s is priced like McDonald’s or Burger King. Expect to pay between €7 and €10 for the menu.
