If you’re a keen horse rider and dream of exploring the Irish moors on the back of your mount, it’s crucial to be well equipped. Although it is possible to be accompanied by local riding schools who will provide you with everything you need, it is also possible for enthusiasts to bring their own equipment… A slightly cumbersome approach, but one that will offer you comfort and familiar pleasure during your long rides. A rather pleasant choice when you’re passionate about the world of horses!

Choosing the right equipment

A comfortable but restrictive approach

When traveling in Ireland with the intention of riding during the trip, aficionados tend to bring their own equipment. But it does require a little forethought and, of course, organization.

If you too prefer this option to renting locally, you’ll need to consider a number of options to facilitate the operation.

First of all, you’ll need to choose the retailer where you want to equip yourself(Equip’ Horse, for example). But you’ll also need to think about how to get your equipment to Ireland… and more precisely, to your future riding school.

Transport

Let’s talk about transportation. A saddle or a bomb aren’t the most compact and easy-to-pack accessories! There are several options:

  • You pay a large surcharge for transport in the hold (if you fly).
  • You first send them by post to your Irish riding school (which can be quite costly).
  • You buy them directly in Ireland
  • You take them with you in your car, and take the ferry (surely the best solution).

In the first three cases, you’ll need to find a solution for returning your equipment to your home at the end of your stay. Not very practical, I’m sure you’ll agree… and very expensive!

Choosing the best equipment

Let’s face it: if you insist on taking your own equipment all the way to Ireland, it’s crucial to choose high-quality, reliable and comfortable equipment. He’ll ensure not only your safety, but above all, the quality of your horseback rides.

But there’s no question of spending hours on a bad saddle, with slipping stirrups and an ill-fitting bomb! After just one day, you could well be exhausted, aching and, above all, disappointed!

That’s why it’s so important to buy from good equipment manufacturers who specialize in equestrian products. Don’t hesitate to ask for advice, try out products and compare offers… The offers are legion…

To help you along the way, here’s a selection of saddles for your horse. You’ll find saddles to suit your needs, in a wide range of materials and sizes.

If you wish, you can also invest in a rug, stirrups, a halter with lead rope, straps or a head spray… There are no limits, and it’s all a question of enjoying yourself… and making your future riding adventures as safe as possible!

However, you should always opt for equipment that suits you, in pleasant, high-quality materials that are compatible with each other and adapted to your future horse. It’s true that a horse-riding holiday in Ireland is a dream come true for many riders… and we understand!

And don’t forget to take along all you need to cope with Ireland’s particularly changeable climate. A local proverb has it that you can see all 4 seasons in a single day! Rain, wind, sun, snow… A warm sweater and a windbreaker are essential if you don’t want to end up freezing to death at the end of the day!
