If you love walking, and want to discover the best that Ireland has to offer, here are some tips for exploring the country in the best possible conditions! It has to be said that not everything is accessible to visitors, which sometimes means asking owners for permission to venture onto their property…

Walking in Ireland in good conditions

Watch out for private property!

Ireland is a rather vast and wild country, of which the locals are particularly proud. Not keen on fences of any kind to delimit their land, you may be unknowingly venturing onto private property… (Many megaliths are located in fields belonging to a local Irishman).

We also recommend that you find out beforehand: even if some sites are not closed, you should be aware that some of them are privately owned. Some accommodating landowners may grant a right of way on their land, but this polite gesture is not always honored on every property.

So take precautions and venture out only in authorized areas. Generally, a simple hello followed by a request for authorization will suffice.

And take care not to pollute the trails: there’s nothing more unpleasant than stumbling across garbage on your path!
