In Ireland, the roads can be long and winding, with few signs! So it’s not always easy to find your way around, unless you have a keen sense of direction or already know the area well! That’s why we recommend a useful little gadget, whether you’re in a rental car or your own vehicle: GPS!
Tired of all kinds of cards that never fold easily and clutter up your glove compartment? How about a GPS to guide you around Ireland?
If you’re already worried enough about driving on the left-hand side of the road, you won’t need to worry about finding your way! It has to be said that GPS can be pretty handy if you want to focus your attention on the road and the scenery, rather than on exactly where you are!
Please note, however, that we advise you to choose your GPS carefully, and above all, to take the necessary equipment with you:
Note that some car rental companies also offer this as part of their package. Sometimes the loaner cars themselves come pre-equipped! So don’t hesitate to ask!
Finally, many phones offer GPS mode. Make sure your package is compatible with GPS use abroad! Many travelers return from Ireland with an exorbitant bill from their telephone operator, thinking that there won’t be any extra costs!
We advise you to pack your GPS in your carry-on bag or handbag to protect it and avoid possible costs in the hold. Security shouldn’t mind if you carry it with you (just like a computer or camera). The only requirement: they’ll ask you to take it out of your bag before x-raying it! Just a routine procedure.
