Very involved in his fight against poverty and inequality in the World, the singer of the famous Irish band U2 was keen to meet President Macron. An opportunity for Bono to discuss key issues with the new French president, including the refugee crisis, poverty, the fight against AIDS in Africa, and access to education for girls…
An exercise that has become almost habitual for the singer: this is the 4th time he has visited the Elysée Palace to raise funds for his “ONE” NGO. He had previously met Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande during their respective terms of office.
The meeting took place on Monday, when Bono was welcomed by Brigitte Macron and invited to meet the President at the Elysée Palace. Following discussions, the French President is said to have pledged to increase the proportion of GDP devoted to development aid to 0.55%.
“More than an appointment, it was a conversation. It was a rather singular conversation, the likes of which I’ve rarely had. The president was open to finding new and innovative ways of solving the problems that affect the poorest people,” said Bono, visibly pleased with his meeting.
