The band U2 paid tribute to Sinéad O’Connor during their concert at the brand-new Sphere complex in Las Vegas. They celebrated the memory of the late Irish singer with a cover of the hit “Nothing Compares 2 U”. An emotional performance, where the 18,000 spectators were also able to express their affection for the Irish artist.
This happened while they were playing “With or Without You”. U2 then abruptly broke into the chorus of Sinéad O’Connor’s famous song “Nothings Compare 2 U”, creating a stir in the room.
Eyes raised to heaven, Bono then religiously repeats the most famous line of the chorus: “Nothings Compare 2 U”. A way for the Irish band to pay tribute to an artist who was also their friend. As a reminder, as well as being a fellow Irishwoman, Sinéad O’Connor had already worked with the band, even singing a duet with Bono himself, for the song: “You Made Me the Thief of Your Heart”.

This poignant tribute follows the tragic loss of Sinéad O’Connor last July. The singer was tragically found lifeless in her London home. Aged 56, she was discovered unconscious by police and subsequently buried at Dean’s Grange Cemetery in County Dublin on August 8.
His death was a real shock not only for Ireland, but for music lovers the world over.
U2, accustomed to emotionally-charged outbursts, took the opportunity of being in Las Vegas to reiterate their sorrow at the loss of one of the greatest figures in contemporary Irish music.
As a reminder, the Irish group inaugurated its Las Vegas residency in the $2.3 billion auditorium named The Sphere. They will play their entire 1991 album, “Achtung Baby”, in 25 shows in this breathtaking 18,000-capacity venue.
