It seems that rock band U2 has been piling up the media scandals lately… After shocking Itunes users by synchronizing their new album “Song of Innocence” without their asking, U2 have now organized the filming of a clip that would have deeply disturbed the Irish…
The cause? First of all, the filming conditions paralyzed the streets of Belfast, and prevented many shopkeepers from accessing their stores, provoking widespread discontent. But the scandal doesn’t stop there, and directly incriminates the clip itself. Indeed, U2 would have liked the video to reflect the Troubles in Northern Ireland, showing Belfast under the bombs, clashes and bombings.
It’s a sensitive subject, and one that has rained criticism. U2 was thus accused of wanting to “make money on the back of the Northern Ireland conflict” via a “tasteless” clip. This all-out attack prompted an immediate response from a group spokesperson, who defended himself by declaring that the accusations were exaggerated.
Decidedly, U2 is currently suffering from a growing wave of unpopularity. Let’s hope it’s only temporary…
