Ballyhaunis

Ballyhaunis (Béal Átha hAmhnais in Irish Gaelic) is a small village of 1,500 inhabitants, located in County Mayo. Life here revolves around cattle rearing and farming, one of the village’s main activities. Don’t miss the friendly town center, the ruined abbey and the golf course!

The town center

The town of Ballyhaunis lies in the heart of the wild Irish countryside, between lakes and wild peat bogs, and imposing megaliths… That’s why we recommend you start in the tiny town center, where you can push open the doors of the village’s pubs and other local businesses. The people here are surprisingly friendly, and prices in the pubs and restaurants are reasonable, to say the least (expect to pay between 6 and 8 for a meal there).

It’s also worth noting that Ballyhaunis is one of the few towns in Ireland to have its own mosque, built in the 1990s following the arrival of Pakistanis in the village.
