In Cahir, medieval castles have pride of place! We recommend a visit to Cahir Castle, a gigantic medieval castle built in 1142 by Conor O’Brien.
It is said to be one of the most imposing 12th-century castles ever built in Ireland. Another place to visit in Cahir is the Swiss Cottage, a bourgeois house located just 2km from the center. The house is in typical 19th-century English style. In fact, it resembles a sort of wooded cottage, built on a hillock with a pleasant view over the rest of Cahir.
Finally, don’t forget to visit Cahir’s ruined church and small priory. Located in Cahir itself, this Anglican church also dates back to the Middle Ages, and every day welcomes many visitors fond of old ruined monuments.
